In the conventional sense, most remote and distributed offices are still using MPLS Technology for their connectivity and this has served them well for most locations. But there are a few shortcomings for the MPLS approach (as we have understood from a few industry leaders).

• In most organisations, we have to use multiple MPLS Clouds as most ISPs cannot provide MPLS Networks all over India.
• There are still 10-15% locations where MPLS network is not available and as such there has to be a mix of Broadband.
• CIOs do not have full control of their network as they have to coordinate with multiple MPLS cloud service providers.
• MPLS is expensive in general and very expensive in case of higher bandwidths for video transmission.

This MPLS technology is unreliable at times and once the link is down, it can stop all communication between your head office and branch office, and a couple of hours of network downtime can lead to heavy losses.
